Respecting Another’s Perception (Transpersonal/Parapsychological experiences)

The Mystic

I live in a Sea of Voices,
once my Truth was feared
and they killed me with
Fire
Hemlock
and Nails,
Now they merely pity Me
and prove
with scientific Argument,
Which they can not explain
and therefore do not
exist!

When I was around 5 years old I began to have what could be termed Transpersonal experiences, closely crossing into the realms of Parapsychological experiences.   That was 60 odd years ago, when the possibility, in that era of time, of having my experiences validated by adults, were very slim.  However, I was lucky as both of my parents were aware of such phenomenon and were able to nurture me through any fears or concerns, but at the same time, heavily cautioning me not to speak to my peers or teachers about such matters.  They were closeted Transpersonal thinkers,  wary in those times of being too open and risking ridicule.

I went on to lead a life constantly interspersed with Transpersonal experiences, as well as participating in a very worldly life raising our family and running businesses.  However, much of my early life was spent searching for personal validation of my sense of self.  I took a lot of flak, criticism and disbelief from my peers and friends, but when, in later life, I did find the courage to own my experiences and write my first Transpersonal Autobiography, ‘The Return’, my readers wrote grateful letters to me thanking me for validating their own experiences, vicariously, through my writing.  Some of those people had been brought up within the confines of strict religious guidelines and they were left feeling extreme guilt that they had transgressed unforgiving boundaries!

I am well aware I was extremely fortunate that when I undertook my Psychology Training to become a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, my Tutor, was himself, knowledgeable and personally enlightened enough to recognise my Transpersonal functioning and allow my sense of self to eventually blossom by the end of the training.  However, that was able to occur because my Tutor also never once colluded with my sense of knowing, he was hard on me, tested my personal knowing to the limits and that was just what I needed to own what I knew, deep within was my gift in this lifetime.

Sadly this is not the case for many and I am well aware, from personal experiences, that there are Counsellors and Psychotherapists, personally unfamiliar with such phenomenon, who would be very uncomfortable encountering clients who may come to them for help in understanding their Transpersonal/Parapsychological experiences.  Many, of course would refer clients on but there is always the risk then that the client feels that experiences are being dismissed, invalidated or judged.  Very, very worrying!

Psychology training the modern world needs to be all encompassing.

I feel that the loss of this innate Transpersonal connection within people, particularly in our Western Culture, is at the root cause of so much personal angst.   Little children are still often in touch with this connectedness, but sadly soon closed down by religious, educational and cultural conditioning.  A sense of loss is then felt as a void that seeks constant comfort and nurturing and becomes filled with disempowering and dangerous distractions and addictions.
