‘You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.’
Jim Rhon – (1930 – 2009) American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker
From my perspective, as an Integrative/Transpersonal Counsellor and Tutor, I feel it is essential that children, from the youngest school age possible, be educated in both Human Psychology and Relationship alongside of Human Biology. Why on earth would you teach one without the other?
Young children, especially today, are bombarded with social media, technology that allows them access to subject material that is mind bending, to say the least and television that is seriously graphic and adult in content during early evening viewing hours. Many young children are not allowed to experience a safe and nurturing childhood and their bodies and minds are forced to cope with living the rest of their adult lives with weak and damaged foundations – a sure recipe for disastrous, personal and interpersonal relationships. They then go on to hand this legacy to their potential offspring. Therein lies the decline in moral and psychological stability of a population in the modern world. This is tragic to say the least and the evidence is out there for us all to witness, should we care to look.
Our Education System seriously needs to overhaul and address this fundamental void in the teaching curriculum, if we are to develop a society that reflects emotional maturity, stability and responsibility upon a personal level. If this is not taken on board, then society will continue struggling to integrate relationally and encompass diversity, tolerance, compassion and understanding and acceptance that all have a right to be heard. It is obvious that the Health and Social Care system is under pressure and at breaking point. It is because so many have not been given the key to self- knowledge, during their education process, to understand and care for themselves upon the most basic mental and physical level, that the result is a needy society that looks externally to find answers to the internal abyss. This is the ever growing social angst that helps to bring the health and social care systems to breaking point and leaves many living unhappy and unfulfilled lives.
We all need to understand ourselves and how we operate in order to become the people we were meant to be. All is possible.
